Cucumber 'Marketmore' Seeds. Renowned and consistently productive variety with a short, aromatic, deep-green, non-bitter fruit. It is extremely resistant to common cucumber diseases. It is harvesting all summer. Available in a 4g packet.
The Marketmore cucumber variety is a creature of Dr. Henry Munger (1916-2010), professor at Cornell University, USA. It was released in 1968 and soon its popularity surpassed the borders of the United States by giving it to one of the world's most important varieties of cucumbers.
Resistant to cucumbers Couchosporium cucumerinum and very good reaction to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), downy mildew (Pseudoperonospora cubensis) and cucumber mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea), Marketmore won in 1995 The RHS Award.
It is sown in a protected environment with temperatures of 24-280C. When seedlings acquire 4-6 real leaves, thick stem and dark green color are transplanted into larger pots to avoid transplanted shock but also to create a stronger root system and placed in colder but equally protected space to harden. When the risk of frost has passed, in the warmer and southern regions, they are planted in their final positions since the third 10 days of March and for greater safety it is useful to cover them with a protective cloth which is removed by the rise of temperatures.
For the fertilization of Marketmore, a fertilizer with proportions in N, P, K 1: 1: 1 is applied at least once a month, which can be replaced by fertilizer with N, K 1: 2 ratio or 1: 3.
Cucumber is demanding in water. Irrigation, according to the climatic conditions and the type of soil, is carried out initially on a second day and then, if the days become hot, is carried out on a daily basis. As with all varieties of cucumbers, Marketmore is very sensitive to salinity, so watering should be done with very good water quality.
To create better fruits, plants must be supported and pruned. Pruning takes place when the cucumber reaches a height of 1.20-1.50cm, where all lateral shoots are removed per second leaf.
In summer, under the greek climatic conditions, the light shading of the plants is recommended.
